Moso Bamboo
is the most important commercial bamboo species in China.  It covers almost 3 million hectares.

This fast growing perennial, reaches up to 20 metre in height and has a diameter of between 6 - 18 cm and is ready for harvest in 4-8 years.

With this short life cycle Moso Bamboo BioChar plays a valued role in carbon sequestration.

China being grossly deficient in timber to satisfy the population's demand for wood, established bamboo forests to meet part of the shortfall.  Moso Bamboo has excellent timber and shoot qualities and is relatively easy to process into biochar.

In Japan Moso BioChar is regarded as an organic product, since no chemical fertilizers or fossil fuel are used in the growing or charring process.

O'Grady Rural imports large stocks of boxed, finely ground Moso BioChar direct from a trusted producer, under a special AQIS permit, after quality assurance checks in China by the National Bamboo Research Institute.

BioChar improves soil health:
Finely ground  Moso BioChar provides a safe habitat for beneficial soil bacteria and fungal hyphae.  Having a
surface area greater than 350 square metre per gram, which is 3-5 times greater than BioChars made from wood.  It is more suitable as a carrier of microbes and organic nutrition than wood biochars..

As well as providing soil microbes with a safe haven from grazing protozoa, the Biochar acts as a sponge holding on to plant nutrients, moisture and organic matter and aids in creating beneficial long lasting complexes with soil colloids.
Moso BioChar also helps to detoxify the soil of inorganic chemicals and  fertilizer
s.

The approximate analysis, 71.5% Carbon, 2.2% silicon, 4.1% Ash, 0.24% Nirogen, 8.7% Oxygen and 1.8% Hydrogen.
